BEFORE After a long battle with cancer, BBC host Beccy Barr has died.
She quit her job as a TV host to become a firefighter.
In 2019, Ms. Barr, who is from Lancaster, said she was leaving journalism after 20 years to work for Lancashire Fire and Rescue, the same company where her father Roy worked.
In February 2022, she shared on social media the good news that she had received distinctions in all of her end-point assessments, which included the practical, theoretical, and interview parts.
But in December of last year, Ms. Barr told everyone the sad news that she had been diagnosed with “incurable cancer.”She wrote, “This clearly less-than-ideal experience has taught me two things: 1) Life is wild. 2) The amount of love, care, and friendship that people can give is truly amazing. Her family told people on the social networking site X earlier today that she had died.
At 2:15 p.m., her account said: This is to tell you the very sad news that Beccy died peacefully this morning. While she was dying, she spent a few days at @SJHospice, where she and her family received the kindest and most respectful care.
“Donations to the hospice can be made in Beccy’s memory.”In her early 20s, Ms. Barr worked at the Blackpool Citizen. After that, she worked for seven years at the BBC’s North West Tonight.
