Jennifer Lopez finally breaks her silence on Ben Affleck divorce

Jennifer Lopez is done with love, at least for now.

Speaking for the first time since filing for divorce from Ben Affleck in August 2024, JLo said she’s “excited” to be on her own.

“Yes, I’m not looking for anybody, because everything that I’ve done over the past 25, 30 years, being in these different challenging situations, what can I f—ing do when it’s just me flying on my own — What if I’m just free?”

Lopez explained to Nikki Glaser for Interview magazine how at times being by herself felt “lonely, unfamiliar, scary,” “sad,” and “desperate,” but she realized none of those feelings were going “kill” her.

“It’s like actually, I am capable of joy and happiness all by myself. Being in a relationship doesn’t define me. I can’t be looking for happiness in other people. I have to have happiness within myself. I used to say I’m a happy person, but was still looking for something for somebody else to fill, and it’s just like, ‘No, I’m actually good.’”

Despite having an idea of what it would take for her to feel secure in a relationship, the actress-singer-producer said “there’s no new bar” set because she’s not looking for a romantic partner.

“For people who are romantics and love being in relationships and want to grow old with somebody, we think, ‘I have to have that to be whole and happy.’ And you don’t,” JLo said before joking it only took her 30 years to figure that out.

Prior to her two-year marriage to Affleck, Lopez found herself dating, engaged, and married to several different people. Unfortunately, none have lasted. She was with Alex Rodriguez (2017-2021), Casper Smart (2011-2016), Marc Anthony (2004-2011), Ben Affleck (2002-2004), Cris Judd (2001-2002), Diddy (1999-2001), and Ojani Noa (1997-1998).

“The work is figuring yourself out. It’s looking back at the feelings underneath and the belief systems that we have about ourselves that make us make certain choices and create certain patterns in our life.”
