In a move that has sent shockwaves through Silicon Valley and the global automotive industry, Elon Musk has just revealed a radically new engine technology that could change the way we think about electric vehicles — and possibly, energy itself.

At a private event streamed from Tesla’s engineering facility in Austin, Musk stood beside what he called the “Quantum Drive Engine” — a next-generation propulsion system designed to deliver nearly double the efficiency of any current EV motor on the market.
