Elon Musk Declares: The Era of Robots Walking Your Dog, Babysitting Your Kids — and Even Mowing Your Lawn — Is Almost Here

A vision that once belonged solely to Hollywood is now being presented by Elon Musk as a near-term reality: a world where weekend chores like mowing the lawn, walking the dog, or babysitting no longer fall on your shoulders, but instead sit neatly on your personal robot’s to-do list.

Speaking at the Saudi–U.S. Investment Forum in May, Musk described a world “so radically different it will be almost unrecognizable,” where personal robots become as ubiquitous as smartphones.
Everyone will want their own robot — like having your own C-3PO or R2-D2, but even better,” he told an audience of investors.

Robots — Not Just Convenient, but an Economic Revolution

Beyond the technological appeal, the Tesla CEO emphasized that personal robots could “unlock massive economic potential,” possibly driving global economic growth “tenfold.”
However, Musk admitted the path forward could turn dark if mishandled:
If we do it wrong, we might end up with a James Cameron ‘Terminator’ scenario. We don’t want that. A Star Trek future would be much better.

Optimus Takes the Stage: Not Serving Drinks Yet, but Already Dancing in Sync

After Musk’s speech, several Optimus robots — the humanoid prototype first unveiled in 2022 — surprised guests by mingling among them. Though they weren’t yet mixing coffee or walking anyone’s dog, they impressed the crowd with charming demonstrations:

  • waving like Astro Bot,
  • holding cups of ice,
  • handing out small gift bags,
  • playing rock-paper-scissors,
  • and, most memorably, performing a synchronized dance inside a glass pavilion like a robot stage show.

Musk confidently declared: “This will be the biggest product in human history — not just for Tesla.

Not Just Humanoids — Self-Driving Cars Are “Robots on Four Wheels”

In Riyadh, Musk also revealed plans to launch a pilot robotaxi program in Austin, Texas as early as June, calling autonomous vehicles simply “robots on four wheels.”
With this vision, Musk said the future of robotics won’t be limited to machines walking on metal legs — some will roll into our lives on wheels.

That Future: No Longer Science Fiction

From fears of a “Terminator”-style disaster to dreams of a “Star Trek” utopia, Musk’s message boiled down to a single point:
The era of personal robots is no longer decades away — it’s right on the horizon.

Will your home soon welcome a metallic companion that mows the lawn, walks the dog, and watches the kids?
According to Elon Musk, the answer is: absolutely.
