In the latest film Road Diary: Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band, Patti Scialfa,

partner of Bruce Springsteen and a critical member of the E Street Band, shared her personal battle with multiple myeloma,

an uncommon type of cancer she was diagnosed with in 2018.

Debuting at the Toronto International Film Festival, the film disclosed that her ailment has impacted her capacity to tour and perform.

Since 1984, Scialfa has been a vital part of the E Street Band while also establishing herself as a solo artist with numerous albums under her belt. Throughout her illustrious music journey, Scialfa has collaborated with several renowned figures like Don Cherry, Narda Michael Walden, David Johansen, and Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes. Additionally, she serves as a composer and a creator of films and documentaries.

Marrying Springsteen in 1991, they welcomed three children together: sons Evan and Samuel, and daughter Jessica.

Discussing the obstacles post her diagnosis, she mentioned, “Being back on stage felt so gratifying,” remarking on her limited stage time. “Touring has now become a test for me. It impacts my immune system, hence I must be cautious in my choices and travels.” Her circumstances necessitate prudence, frequently limiting her to sporadic appearances.

Despite her current health battles, Scialfa strives to retain a positive outlook. “Occasionally, I make it to a performance or two and can engage in a few tunes on stage, which has been a delight,” she shared.

While missing the film’s premiere, which will be accessible for streaming on Hulu and Disney+ from October 25, she divulged that it provides audiences a peek into “an aspect of our connection that is usually concealed.”

“Reuniting onstage with Bruce is an absolute joy,” she expressed. “Every night on this tour allows the band a moment to revel.”
