Hailey Merkt, a prior participant on The Bachelor, has passed away at 31 after bravely battling leukemia.
The tragic news of her unfortunate death was announced on her personal Instagram by her relatives who expressed sorrow while honoring her remarkable strength, poise, and altruism during her struggle.
“It is with heavy hearts we announce the departure of our beloved Hailey following a valiant fight for her life,”
their statement conveyed. “Hailey faced this ordeal with unimaginable courage, kindness, and selflessness. Her valor, resolve, and desire to survive shone through in the midst of every prognosis given by the doctors. She elected to spend her final moments with loved ones engaged in her favorite activities, without any regrets.”
Hailey, born on November 3, 1992, in Vancouver, Canada, featured on Season 21 of The Bachelor in 2017, where she vied for Nick Viall’s affections.
Besides her appearance on reality TV, Hailey pursued photography and had a role as a senior marketing and communications manager. She majored in Communication and Media Studies at Carleton University and attained a diploma in print journalism from Conestoga College.
In April 2024, she was declared free of cancer but her health suddenly deteriorated just three months later, leading to her premature passing on July 26, 2024.Instagram
In her last months, Hailey persisted in sharing her journey on social platforms, documenting both her triumphs and challenges. Her demise triggered an influx of tributes from her former Bachelor comrades, who remembered her as a lively, humorous, and affectionate individual.
Her acquaintances, family, and ex-participants of the reality program paid their respects to the young lady.
“I consider myself fortunate to have encountered your laughter and am thankful to have met and cherished the most genuine, warmest, and most exquisite soul in the oddest of places. Forever grateful for your camaraderie there and in the tangible realm… What a force my friend, rest well. Much affection to all your dear ones,” remarked one of the ex The Bachelor participants.
“Oh my goodness!!! I’m extremely saddened to hear this news. I was genuinely hoping for her recovery. Rest serenely, Hailey, you will always be remembered,” another contestant, Raven Gates, shared.
Dominique Alexis, also featured on the same season of The Bachelor as Hailey, offered her sincere sympathies. “My dear, I trust you are now in the most beautiful tranquil place. I can’t fathom that I won’t meet you again but I will cherish every shared memory. Love you,” she expressed.
Hailey’s family expressed gratitude to all those who provided their support and contributed to the GoFundMe page established to aid with the medical bills.
